Message from the President

KUWAE Tomohiro, President, Japan Blue Economy associasion

The Japan Blue Economy association (JBE) aims to develop new methods and technologies to deepen our relationship with the ocean so that we can continue to benefit from it for generations to come. We also aim to promote research in collaboration on an equal footing with a variety of partners, including private companies, municipalities, NGOs, and NPOs, under the supervision of the government.

We will develop methodologies to provide solutions for various needs associated with the blue economy, using scientific and technological evidence, quantitative evaluations of ecosystem services and economic values, and detailed schemes. The potential needs we anticipate include:

  1. Raising national awareness of the environmental work you are doing at your local sites and obtain funding for your activities
  2. Quantifying the company's SDGs efforts; in particular, contributing to society through SDG 14 (Life below water), SDG 13 (Climate action) and SDG 6 (Clean water and sanitation) activities
  3. Finding out how much carbon dioxide the seaweed growing on the rocky shores and seawalls right in front of you is absorbing

We would like to respond to such needs with scientific and technological evidence, numerical values, economic values, and concrete methods.

JBE is not an organization doing actual business, as it is a nationally approved (by a Japanese Ministry) corporation, called a Collaborative Innovation Partnership. However, JBE is aiming to establish and launch a new legal entity to do actual business and social activities in the next few years.
